SACE review

In June 2018, The Minister for Education, the Hon. John Gardner MP announced a review into the Stage 2 requirements of the South Australia Certificate of Education (SACE).

The State Government is conducting the review to ensure that SACE graduates continue to have the best learning experience possible in an ever changing world.

Ms Wendy Johnson, Principal of Glenunga International High School and Vice President of the Secondary Principals’ Association, has been appointed as the external reviewer.

Ms Johnson was a panel member of the recent Gonski Review, which delivered Through Growth to Achievement: Report of the Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Schools earlier this year.

The review is being conducted with the support of the SACE Board and its Chief Executive, Professor Martin Westwell.

You can provide your feedback on the Stage 2 requirements through an online survey. Consultation closes on 17 August 2018.

The report from the SACE Stage 2 review including the final recommendations will be delivered to the Minister for Education by the end of the year.

You are invited to provide a submission via an online survey to the following three key topics:

  • The number of Stage 2 subjects required to be undertaken by students;
  • The compulsory requirement of the Research Project, whether it should continue to account for 10 credits at Stage 2, and what improvements might be made with specific reference to entrepreneurial education opportunities; and
  • The role of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the SACE, including what improvements can be made and how entrepreneurial education opportunities might be incorporated into VET pathways.
The survey has been closed. Thank you for your input, which will help position the highly regarded SACE to meet the future needs of young South Australians and our state.
