Assessment for Learning Masterclass with Professor Helen Timperley

Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Thursday 9 March

This two-part face-to-face event with Dr Helen Timperley is designed for educators and professional learning leaders seeking to maximise student learning through providing high quality feedback.

Part One: Giving high quality feedback to students has one of the highest effect sizes in terms of making a difference to student outcomes. On the surface, it looks easy to do, but in reality it demands a mix of deep curriculum knowledge, inquiring into students’ understanding of the curriculum, and the features of high quality feedback. This session will unpack the contribution of each of these together with what it looks like in practice.

Part Two: What we know about giving feedback to students, underpins high quality feedback among colleagues. This second session will illustrate how these elements come together to promote peer professional learning through observations as teachers work together to identify what will make the most difference to the students for whom they have responsibility.

This session aligns with Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
5.2 - Provide feedback to students on their learning
7.4 - Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

Natural Evidence of Learning: Cambridge Masterclass

Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Tuesday 28 March

Global experts Sally Brown and Martin Johnson of the Cambridge Assessment Network will be teaming up with the SACE Board to deliver an interactive and challenging symposium on the nature of evidence in learning.

The session will engage participants to examine their perceptions of learning evidence by considering what counts as evidence, exploring the perceived hierarchy of evidence and the comparability of evidence.

Session 1: What is formal, non-formal, and informal learning and how can we identify and value this learning?
Session 2: Equity and comparability. Is there a hierarchy between formal, non-formal, and informal learning and how does it apply to SACE assessments?
Session 3: What conditions are required to quality assure authentic evidence that provide trust and confidence in the integrity of verification and warranting?

This session aligns with Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
5.1 - Assess student learning
5.3 - Make consistent and comparable judgements
7.4 - Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities

Activating Identities and Futures (AIF) & Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) workshops for Senior Years Teaching and Learning Leaders

(also known as Curriculum Directors, Assistant Principal Curriculum, Director of Teaching and Learning).

Various locations, 21 March – 17 April

As the Revitalisation of the Research Project and Personal Learning Plan projects step closer towards future EIF and AIF implementation the SACE Board is providing early professional learning for senior years teaching and learning leaders (also known as Curriculum Directors, Assistant Principal Curriculum, Director of Teaching and Learning) on:

  • The new EIF and AIF subjects and lessons learnt from the first pilot
  • How EIF and AIF are supporting students to thrive
  • When and how the SACE Board are supporting teaching and learning leaders and subject teachers

Please note: this workshop is not designed for subject teachers.

Our approach

Our approach to change involves working in partnership with schools in the SACE Change Network (SCN). SACE Change Network schools have an important role in supporting the SACE Board to adapt and refine policy before broader implementation.

When the SACE Board has confidence that new policies will support students to thrive and are ready for broader implementation the SACE will provide implementation professional learning.

As these projects step closer towards future implementation across the whole sector, the SACE Board in partnership with education thought leaders and SCN lead practitioners, will provide early professional learning to prime and connect the education community. Professional learning will explore future directions in Education, and link explicitly to the SACE Board's strategic direction and the work of SACE Change Network schools.
