CCAFL national model

The subject outlines for interstate, locally assessed, and nationally assessed languages at beginners, continuers, and background speakers levels have been developed from the Collaborative Curriculum and Assessment Framework for Languages (CCAFL).

CCAFL is a national model for the teaching, learning, and assessment of language subjects.

The three levels in the framework are:

  • beginners - for students with little or no previous knowledge of the language
  • continuers - for students who will have studied the language for 400 to 500 hours by the time they have completed Stage 2, or who have an equivalent level of knowledge
  • background speakers - for students who have a background in the language and who have had more than 1 year's education in a country where the language is spoken.
The nationally assessed languages at continuers level are being renewed, and teachers are invited to provide feedback on the draft framework.
