FAQs
Do I need to be a high-achieving student to apply?
No. We're looking for students with a range of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds. You do not need top grades, leadership experience, or all the answers to be a Young Ambassador.
What happens after I apply?
After applications close, we will review submissions and contact applicants with an outcome. Successful applicants will then participate in onboarding activities before the program begins.
Can I apply if I don't feel confident speaking in front of groups?
Yes. The program is designed to support students with different strengths and experiences. There are many ways to contribute, and we will provide training, guidance and encouragement throughout the program.
Do I need to attend every activity?
We understand that school, work, family and extracurricular commitments can sometimes arise. We ask that participants make every effort to attend scheduled activities and communicate with the program team if they are unable to attend.
Will participating affect my schoolwork?
The program has been designed to fit alongside your school commitments, with an expected commitment of approximately 0.5–1 day per month outside of school hours. We encourage students to discuss participation with their school and parent/carer before applying.
What if I'm not selected?
We encourage all interested students to apply. If you aren't selected this year, we will stay in touch to report on progress and keep you posted about future opportunities.
I already have a Working with Children Check. Do I need to apply for another one?
No, as long as your WWCC is valid in SA, you’re good to go!
Where will meetings take place?
Face to face sessions will be held at the SACE office: Market Square, 30 Gouger Street, Adelaide. Online sessions will be held via Teams meetings. Travel and accommodation support with be available for regional participants where required.
What time will meetings be held?
To minimise disruption to school learning, most meetings and workshops will be held after school hours. Engaging fellow students at school can be flexible.
How many Young Ambassadors will be selected?
We expect to select 6-8 Young Ambassadors for the pilot program. We know there are more students interested than there are places available. We will stay in touch with all applicants to report on progress and keep you posted about future opportunities.
