Public consultation

Subject Renewal is helping shape the future of the SACE to ensure it remains a modern, responsive qualification that prepares young people for a changing world.

The contributions of Subject Renewal Group members and other stakeholders have been critical in shaping the direction of the program and building a strong evidence base for future decision-making. We recognise that this work has required participants to navigate uncertainty, challenge established practices and think differently about curriculum and assessment.

Public consultation provides an opportunity for educators, leaders and other stakeholders to review proposed directions for renewed subjects, contribute their expertise and help ensure renewed subjects are practical, relevant and responsive to the needs of schools, teachers and students.

Feedback gathered through consultation will be carefully reviewed and considered alongside the evidence and insights already collected through Subject Renewal. It will be used to refine and strengthen renewed subjects before they are presented for accreditation.

Current consultation

The renewed Stage 1 Essential English, Stage 1 Music and Stage 1 Language Continuers subject outline snapshots demonstrate how the new curriculum and assessment model is being translated into curriculum and assessment design. They provide opportunities to review proposed subject directions and help shape future SACE subjects through public consultation.

Your feedback will help identify opportunities to refine and strengthen the proposed subject outlines.

We recommend completing the consultation survey that includes snapshots of the new subject outline on a laptop or desktop device for the best experience.

Stage 1 Essential English

Consultation closes 18 September.

Stage 1 Music

Consultation closes 2 October.

Stage 1 Language Continuers

Consultation closes 2 October.

What happens next?

Once refinements have been made to the subject outlines they will progress towards accreditation, the formal quality assurance process through which proposed SACE subjects are formally reviewed and approved for use in schools.

Following accreditation, 2027 will focus on implementation readiness activities, including professional learning, resource development and support for schools and teachers. The renewed Stage 1 Essential English, Music and Language Continuers subjects are planned for first teaching in 2028.

Thank you for contributing your expertise and perspectives as we work together to shape the future of learning in the SACE.
