Nationally Assessed Languages (continuers) CCAFL renewal

The Collaborative Curriculum and Assessment Framework for Languages (CCAFL) is a national arrangement where all states and territories share a common curriculum and assessment framework for small enrolment languages. 

Following a national consultation in 2021, and approval by ACACA and all Australian jurisdictions, the national CCAFL framework has been renewed.  The subject outline for the nationally assessed languages at continuers level has been updated to reflect the renewed framework.

Students engage with the concepts of:

  • Identity
  • Legacy
  • Responsibility
  • Sustainability

CCAFL renewal | Body

through eight prescribed topics that allow personal, community, and global perspectives to be explored in [Language] and within an Australian context.

Four of the eight topics are common to all languages. These are:

  • Inclusivity, diversity and belonging
  • Innovation
  • Society
  • Sustaining language and culture.

The remaining four topics vary between languages. The topics are taught through subtopics chosen by the teacher.

All concepts, perspectives, and topics are to be studied across Stage 1 and Stage 2.
