Subject renewal

The SACE Board regularly renews its accredited subjects to ensure that students have access to a relevant, contemporary, high quality senior secondary education.

The subject renewal process is guided by the following set of principles:

Future subject renewals

Work has begun on the renewal of the following Stage 1 and Stage 2 subjects:

Digital Technologies

  • The draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Digital Technologies were available for online consultation from 6 September-10 October 2016.
  • The Digital Technologies subject outline was accredited by the Board in November 2016.
  • Stage 1 implementation workshops were held in Term 3, 2017.
  • Stage 1 Digital Technologies is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2018.
  • Stage 2 implementation workshops are scheduled for Term 2, 2018.
  • Stage 2 Digital Technologies is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2019.

Music subjects

  • Draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Music were available for consultation until 5 May 2017.
  • The Music subject outlines were accredited by the Board in June 2017.
  • Stage 1 implementation workshops were held in Term 3, 2017.
  • Stage 1 Music is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2018.
  • Stage 2 implementation workshops are scheduled for Term 2, 2018.
  • Stage 2 Music is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2019.

Physical Education

  • Draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Physical Education were available for consultation until 5 May 2017.
  • The Physical Education subject outlines were accredited by the Board in November 2017.
  • Stage 1 implementation workshops are planned for Term 3, 2018.
  • Stage 1 Physical Education is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2019.
  • Stage 2 implementation workshops are planned for Term 2, 2019.
  • Stage 2 Physical Education is scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2020.

Aboriginal Studies

  • The draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies were available for consultation from 15 May to 23 June 2017.
  • The Aboriginal Studies subject outlined was accredited by the Board in August 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 implementation workshops were offered in Term 3, 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 Aboriginal Studies will be taught for the first time in 2018.

Integrated Learning

  • Draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Integrated Learning were available for consultation from 8 May to 19 June 2017.
  • The Integrated Learning subject outline was accredited by the Board in July 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 implementation workshops were offered in Term 3, 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 Integrated Learning will be taught for the first time in 2018.

Scientific Studies

  • The draft subject outlines for Stage 1 and Stage 2 Scientific Studies were available for consultation from 21 August 2017 to 29 September 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 Scientific Studies was accredited by the Board in November 2017.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 implementation workshops are planned for Term 3, 2018.
  • Stage 1 and Stage 2 Scientific Studies are scheduled to be taught for the first time in 2019.

Business and Enterprise, Accounting, Economics, Australian Languages

  • Work is underway on the renewal of these subjects.

Tertiary admissions subjects and SATAC

The South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) is responsible for coordinating with South Australian and Northern Territory tertiary institutions about how subjects are considered for tertiary entrance.

During the subject renewal process, SATAC works closely with the SACE Board to provide advice to schools about the tertiary entrance status of new and renewed subjects.
