Subject Renewal progress
The SACE Board is committed to ensuring that the broader education community is kept informed of Subject Renewal progress and the activities of the Subject Renewal Groups (SRGs).
Subjects have been separated into three groups and are progressing at different paces, working through four key phases towards implementation, as outlined in our Subject Renewal roadmap. Below is the latest update on the progress of each subject group.
Group 1 subjects
Group 1 subjects progressed through the Engage & discover, Develop, and Test, learn & adapt phases in 2025.
Towards the end of 2025, subject teachers, students, Lead Practitioners, subject associations and other education leaders came together for a Learning Event to reflect on the impact of the Subject Renewal Program as a whole, and the Stage 1 learning and assessment prototypes that were tested in a live environment. Evaluation findings are summarised in the 2025 Impact Report [PPTX 910KB].
In 2026, group 1 subjects will progress through the Test, learn & adapt and Transfer & adapt phases.
Stage 1 subject outlines for Language Continuers, Essential English, Music will be presented for accreditation in 2026, ready for teaching in 2027. Implementation readiness activities (resources, professional learning etc.) will take place in semester 2, 2026.
In addition, learnings from Stage 1 will be transferred and adapted to a Stage 2 context. Stage 2 prototypes will be tested through consultation with students and key stakeholders and undergo evaluation in September. It is anticipated that Stage 2 will be accredited in 2027, ready for teaching in 2028.
Stage 1 Subject Prototypes for Ancient Studies, Modern History, Health and Wellbeing, General Mathematics and Biology will be reviewed and adapted based on 2025 key learnings. These prototypes will then undergo further testing in classrooms and evaluation in September. Stage 1 accreditation is anticipated in 2027 for delivery in 2028.
In addition, learnings from Stage 1 will be transferred and adapted to a Stage 2 context. Stage 2 prototypes will be tested through consultation with students and key stakeholders.
