Artificial Intelligence (AI) in SACE assessments

Responding to Artificial Intelligence

Students have always been keen to use new and exciting tools to support their learning. Rapidly expanding access to generative AI will continue to provide students with a powerful tool for learning and the SACE Board will continue to be responsive to the opportunities AI presents for enhancing student learning  and the challenges to the integrity of assessment.

The following phases provide the SACE Board’s framework for responding in the short and medium term to the opportunities and challenges:

Learn – Engage with teachers who are leading responses to AI in their schools to understand the challenges and practices that support SACE assessment authenticity and integrity.

Test – Develop and test future policies and practices through subject renewal that promote authentic student learning and assessment. We will work with Subject Renewal Groups and subject renewal key drivers to develop future policies and practices.

Evolve & Share – Ongoing adaptation and sharing of updated guidelines, support materials, and exemplars. This includes providing resources here on our website, and offering professional learning opportunities. SACE subject renewal updates socialise the medium-term policy and practices that promote authentic student learning and assessment.

Enhancing student learning and assessment integrity

The assessment conditions outlined in Learning and Assessment Plans (LAPs) provide the opportunity to enhance students learning and assessment integrity. The following resources outline how teachers can design tasks with verifying assessment conditions that uphold integrity without stifling learning.

These resources should be read alongside the Supervision and Verification of Students’ Work Policy and Procedure [PDF 180KB] and academic integrity guidance.
