Adult entry
Each year, many adults enrol to earn their SACE.
SACE policies consider you an ‘adult student’ if you have left school for at least one continuous year before returning to study and you are, or will be, at least 18 years old by 1 January of your final year of Stage 2 SACE studies.
Many adult entry students earn their credits through a combination of SACE subjects and by demonstrating that their prior education, training and work experience have given them sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to meet SACE requirements.
There’s no time limit, so you can study subjects over a period that suits you and your work and family commitments.
Adults over 21 years of age
If you’re 21 years or older and haven’t earned your SACE, you can enrol to complete your SACE.
You can also apply to the SACE Board, through your school, for recognition of any qualifications or learning experiences that you have.
As an adult student you can be awarded a maximum of 110 credits (including the compulsory Personal Learning Plan or PLP) at Stage 1.
Adult students are granted 70 credits, plus a further 20 credits for demonstrating evidence to your school principal that you have met the literacy requirement, and another 10 credits if you can demonstrate that you have met the numeracy requirement.
In Stage 2, you'll need:
- 10 credits through achieving a C- grade or better in the compulsory Research Project
- 60 credits by achieving a C- grade or better in Stage 2 Board-accredited subjects, or the equivalent of at least a satisfactory achievement in Board-recognised vocational education and training courses
- 20 credits through achievements in other Board-accredited subjects or Board-recognised courses at Stage 1 or Stage 2.
