The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted students doing VET qualifications with mandated work placements, such as in the aged care and child care sectors.
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) states that:
"where work placement is mandatory, that placement will need to be deferred until such time that it can be conducted".
We encourage SACE students to continue their VET learning, with the intention to complete the mandated work placement at an appropriate time and as soon as practical.
This could include options for a simulated work placement or ‘block work’ placement later in the year, as appropriate for the qualification and advised by the RTO.
Where a work placement is not mandated and is instead a preferred mode of delivery and assessment, we advise schools to work with RTOs to continue the VET learning already commenced in accordance with ASQA’s advice, or consider other VET competency options.
Where a VET student’s work placement complements a SACE subject, schools should consider the existing flexibilities that are provided in SACE subject outlines, as well as the approved subject outline changes due to the impact of COVID-19.
