Certificate III completion for ATAR
The SACE Board and SATAC are working closely together to support students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We both acknowledge that many students undertake a Certificate III qualification as part of their SACE, with the intention that it contribute towards the calculation of their ATAR.
Continue the learning
SACE students are encouraged to continue their VET learning, with an intention to complete the Certificate III qualification as part of their SACE, in accordance with the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s (ASQA’s) advice.
It is important to note, a collection of units of competency towards a Certificate III qualification, without the intention to complete the qualification, would not be eligible for an ATAR.
Schools should continue to enter successfully completed VET results in Schools Online in the usual way, and should continue to verify successful completion of Certificate III qualifications in Schools Online in the usual way using the VET Qualification Verification, and before the scheduled due date of 29 November 2020.
For students who cannot complete their VET or their work placement by the due date, there will be an additional opportunity to submit VET results and still have their completed Certificate III count towards their ATAR before the university first round offers in January 2021. These students may use the months of December and early January to complete any remaining VET or work placement, with evidence provided to the SACE Board before Friday 8 January 2021.
For some students, it may be impossible to complete their Certificate III despite all best efforts to do so, for example because workplaces remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
For students in this situation who still cannot complete their Certificate III due to work placement before the main university offer round in January 2021, schools are required to submit evidence regarding the learning the student was able to complete, what learning the student was not able to complete, and the circumstance that made it impossible for the student to complete the qualification, including evidence from the RTO.
These details must be submitted to the SACE Board through the Certificate III verification process and will be considered on an individual basis. A collection of units of competency towards a Certificate III qualification without the intention and best efforts to complete the qualification will not meet the requirement.
