Understanding the certificate

Students who complete the SACE receive three documents, two from the SACE Board and one from the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC):

  • the South Australian Certificate of Education - the certificate is the formal recognition that a student has completed the requirements of the SACE
  • a Record of Achievement - the record of a student's results in SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 that can be counted towards completion of SACE requirements
  • a Tertiary Entrance Statement (from SATAC) – the statement contains a student's TAFE SA Selection Score and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), if they are eligible to receive them.

Students applying for jobs may show employers their Record of Achievement as evidence of their learning or grades.

The Record of Achievement shows:

  • a grade in the range A+ to E- for each Stage 2 (Year 12) subject completed in 2011
  • any SACE credits granted for recognised learning at Stage 2 (Year 12) in areas such as self-directed community learning, university studies and Vocational Education and Training (VET)
  • a grade in the range A to E for each Stage 1 (Year 11) subject completed after 2009
  • any SACE credits granted for recognised learning at Stage 1 (Year 11) in areas such as self-directed community learning, community-developed programs (e.g. the Duke of Edinburgh's Award), and Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Any VET included as part of a student's SACE is listed under the qualification title (e.g. Certificate III in Allied Health) along with the total number of SACE credits granted for VET units completed. VET units undertaken by the student will not be listed individually.
