2011 Aboriginal Student Pathways Conference
The Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, Hon Jay Weatherill MP, opened the conference, which is designed to help students explore the study options available to them.
Students had the opportunity to participate in year-level SACE workshops, interactive “iExplore” activities showcasing various university faculties, and career workshops.
Keynote speaker Corey Warrior, an Aboriginal teacher from Craigmore High School, inspired the more than 230 students with a presentation about his journey to complete Year 12 and university.
Corey also shared photos of his adventurous lifestyle as a secondary Physical Education and Science teacher, which has seen him teach in America, London and Australia.
Feedback from many participants confirmed that Corey’s speech was the ‘best thing’ about the conference. Attendees agreed it was a successful conference and that they recognised the strong emphasis on finishing Year 12.
